| The situation of the motorcycle production and the exhaust emission in China are described in details in the investigation. The emission control measures, the legislations in the different countries or regions and the history or development schedule are reviewed. It is concluded that the catalytic converting technology is one of the main control strategies for Chinese motorcycle emission.To analyze the pressure waves in the exhaust pipes and the influence of the catalytic converter, new simulation software has been developed by the author on the base of MK14, which is a powerful tool in developing exhaust system with catalytic converter. Its principle and the method to use are explained. The numeral models for engine simulation are simplified in the paper. The exhaust system and muffler are simplified as a set of 1-D pipes with non-isentropic flow and with variable sections. The partial differential equations of non-stationary flow are transferred into the stationary differential equations by means of the characteristic lines. These equations are solved by finite difference method. Engine Simulated Calculation System (ESCS) are developed, which friendly user interface visible result and higher application value some commercial value.Exhaust system can be respectively calculated in two-stroke and four-stroke engines by the developed ESCS system for application. It can also analyze the pressure wave in the intake pipe and exhaust pipe which infect on engine dynamical performance. The utilization of the pressure wave in the intake pipe and exhaust pipe which not only make more exhaust gas out of the cylinder but also improve the charge efficiency and make more fresh gas. The dynamic performance and economic performance of the engine has improved. By the examination and analysis, it can be concluded that the simulation calculation to exhaust evolution system of the engine by ESCS system for application is feasible and true.Last, by the Engine Simulated Calculation System, the best position ofcatalytic converter are confirmed in muffler and influence on engine performance of pressure waves are made out with exhaust control muffler. A new muffler with catalyst is developed, which has better exhaust dynamical infection. The conclusion of test is that, with the new exhaust control muffler dynamical performance fuel economy and noise of the motorcycle have no obviously change. The conversion ratio of CO HC and NOx is more than 50% with catalyst in muffler. |
