Beam string structure (abbrev. BSS) is an inner equilibrium system which bending resistance member and tension member is linked by brace strut. According the different disposing type in single BSS, there are unidirectional BSS , bi-directional BSS and multi-directional BSS etc, and the behavior of single BSS is determine to the whole body's behavior. It is very important to understand the behavior of single BSS. BSS is widely applied in the engineering practice, but there are many problems haven't solved perfectly in design and calculate. For example, no mature theory can be used for determination of stress distribution in initial equilibrium state and the initial geometry in geometry zero state till now; no mature theory can be used for the form optimization in loading equilibrium state till now; there are few study on the behavior of space BSS.In this paper, form-finding and mechanical behavior of BSS is studied. At first, based on discussing the introduce method of the prestress in cable, a new efficient method named initial strain inverse iteration method is put forward, and some calculation examples are done to evaluate the correct of this method; secondly, the better depth-span ratio is firstly presented on the base of analyzing the structural mechanical behavior in a variety parameter, so the form of BSS is optimized by the better depth-span ratio; at last, a tentative research is done on the mechanical behavior of space BSS. The research of this paper is good to apply the space BSS system.
