In the process of model reconstruction with measured data cloud in reverse engineering, These are often data lose owing to partial covering of the part or limit of the measuring instrument within the acquired triangular mesh model. These holes must be repaired to form complete model of the part. At the same time, we need to transform triangular mesh model to parameterized smooth B-Spline surfaces in order to redesign the part or other consequent application. Hole repairing in triangular mesh models and piecewise smooth B-Spline surfaces fitting have been studied in this dissertation. The following are the primary contents: On basis of hole-repairing research in mesh models a simple and effective algorithm of hole repairing for planar closed holes is designed, and an algorithm of curvature-based hole repairing for three-dimensional closed holes is presented, in addition, the algorithm of hole repairing for island holes is studied. This uniform resample of data points in rectangular region and fitting of piecewise smooth B-Spline surfaces are explored. A uniformly sampling algorithm of three-dimensional segmented quadrilateral boundary domain and an uniformly distributed sampling point optimized method based on force equilibrium are presented. Then on basis of the above researches, the smooth B-Spline surface fitting is implemented. The related software modules are designed and implemented and the above algorithms are verified with samples.
