Recently, with the increasing of the living condition, the new life style make people require for a higher standard to the public space. However, according to the condition of our city square, we learn the systematic study of the city square is lacking. Especially in the city of northwest region, the development is more lag. For this purpose, we fist begin with the relationship of square and city space, point out that the square is a kind of vigorous urban space. Then we make a review for the evolution of the city square's space mode in west countrys and China. And through the contrast of the city square between domestic and foreign, we discuss the city square's evolutionary regularity and tendency, point out that it is an economic, social and natural product of a certain historical period.
