As a new retaining system, the soil nail is more and more widely used in our country. It is a kind of economic, reliable technology and is convenient in construction. But the method of its stability analysis is not perfect yet, and the study of its reliability is also very poor.Based on the past researches, this paper analyses the stability of the soil nail further, especially its inner stability. Various methods of stability analysis in and outside China are appraised, then, the classical arc glide method is improved in this paper. The later method can analyze two failure modes: the soil nail's pull-out failure and its breakage.Since traditional certainty methods have some instinct limitations, this paper comprehensively considers the uncertainty of the friction strength value between the nail and soil, the strength factor of soil, and so on. After dealing with the factors and their relation, the reliability of the soil-nail retaining structure is analyzed and its calculating formula is educed. Furthermore, this paper also elicits some disciplinary conclusions by studying an actual engineering examination. So it can offer some reference and evidence to the design of the soil-nail retaining system from the traditional safety coefficient method to the more economic and scientific subentry safety coefficient method.
