Based on the investigation of existing AIS equipment in domestic and international markets, with reference to international standards and according to IALA Guidelines on AIS operation, the project of AIS training system is put forward. The system is designed and achieved for the needs of maritime training. The development of this system can provide seamen a new practice mode of operating AIS device. It is an AIS training's Computer-aided instruction (CAI) system. The system is based on local-area network and developed with Visual C++ 6.0. The subsystems, the teacher system and the student system, realized a series of functions, such as simulating AIS Interface, AIS communication, ship's trace simulation and teaching management. The AIS interface subsystem is in favors of training more really and operating more simply by patterning upon the real device and utilizing the reality graphical interface. It achieved all functions prescribed by related international standards. Trainee can master the theory and operation of AIS soon. The ship's trace subsystem is designed with loxodrome's arithmetic to provide the related parameter to AIS interface. Trainee can set ship's trace parameters by input windows. The teaching management subsystem meets the needs of CAI system and provides the function of assigning the practice, watching AIS information, and so on.The system can meet each demand for AIS training and provides friendly interface. It can provide a more safe and effective way for training seamen to master AIS as a modern navigation aid. And the fulfillment of this system provides the basis for the study of AIS's network performance and also provides an initial simulation basis. This system is also very helpful for the research of AIS's theory.
