Power and vibration measurements are two main important aspects of performance testing of a ship shaft. The torsional vibration of shafting seems to be even more important because it concerns the safety and reliability of the ship. As a popular means of solving vibration problems in engineering, vibration signal analysis techniques have been widely used in practice. In this subject, a dynamic parameters collecting and signal processing system for the shafting has been developed. Not only it can finish the task of power and vibration measuring of the shafting, but also provides perfect software modules for signal processing in engineering application.The monitoring and fault diagnosis system for large-scale rotary machinery is largely applied in many fields such as power plants and chemical plants. As an extension of this subject, mechanical vibration, signal processing and fault diagnosis were synthesized. Analysis and experiments have been carried out for the investigation of the vibration characteristics of cracked cantilever beams and the fault diagnosis model based on wavelet-neural network. A torsional spring model was established to simulate a crack and a numerical calculating method was generalized. An intelligent diagnosis software module based on wavelet-neural network was also developed. All of the above work aims at providing some reference for monitoring and fault diagnosis system of ship driving equipment in the future.
