A Study On The Methodology Of Modern Landscape Design

Landscape design of environments is a very important standard for judging the development of a city- even a country- in economy, society and civilization. It is provided with social, historic, cultural, ecological, scientific and technical significance; it is with distinguishing features and infiltration; it is an open public space in perfect harmony with natural ecological system and artificial system. Scientifical, rational, artistical designed landscapes are very important means to balance ecological system, improve our environment, create regional cultural characteristics and better people's life.From analyzing the historical and philosophical problems in modern Chinese landscape design, based on social practice and investigations, this thesis consults a lot of internal and external material and holds a research into the tradition of landscape design and the explore and development of modern landscape design in a historical, comparative, systematic way. It tries to find a good way for modern design in accordance with our national conditions. On the basis of comparison, analyses and syntheses, it advances a new orientation in development of modern Chinese landscape design in the future: I. Integration of Form and Function; II. The Genius of the Place and Contextism, and it takes further steps to study the methodology from appreciation of landscapes to mentality,ecology and philosophy of landscapes.
