Structural vibration control is a new research field for reducing vibration of structures subjected to earthquakes and windstorm. Hybrid control combined the Passive control, Active control and Semi-active control is more effective and more reliable for improving safety of building under the earthquakes. In this paper, a detailed theoretical analysis and numerical simulation were carried out for a new kind of structural vibration control system Base-Isolation & Active Variable Stiffness/Damping (BI&AVSD). Three kinds of control algorithms were used in this numerical simulation: the symbol control law, the first mode control law and the main mode control law. By numerical simulation, we studied the seismic responses of BI&AVSD system under the several kinds of earthquake waves and sine waves with different frequency characteristics and different PGA Numerical simulation demonstrated that the control effectiveness of relative displacement responses and the story displacement relative to base-isolation story are in correlation with the frequency-ratio of the earthquake waves. And simulation analyses were carried out to examine the influence of the parameters of the controlled structures and the controllers on the control effectiveness of the system. The simulation results show that the different control laws can bring on the different control effectiveness. In this paper, another three control systems were also discussed. They are Base-Isolation system (BI), Base-Isolation & Passive Variable Stiffness system (BI&PVS) and Base-Isolation & Passive Variable Damping system (BI&PVD). These control effectiveness of four control systems are all computed and compared. The results indicated that BI&AVSD system is more efficient in alleviating the vibration of building.
