Single phase induction motors are one of the most widely used motors in the world. When variable speed is required for these motors, it is usually achieved either by regulating the voltage of stator, or by switching the poles of the motor by changing the fixed winding configurations. Yet relatively little work has been done in the application of power electronic converter to these motors to achieve variable speed operation. With the development of the technology of frequency control, research on the frequency control of the motor combined with power electronic begins to draw people's attention. The thesis gives detailed analysis and summarization about the technology of frequency control of two phase induction motor, including the basic theory, the suitable two phase inverter technologies, such as half bridge, full bridges, and with three legs etc., and the comparison of these topologies. Some main control strategies such as SPWM, SVPWM are also discussed. Based on these, the thesis proposed a novel control strategy for the inverter with three legs. The utilization ratio of DC link voltage has been promoted; it also has good performance in suppression of harmonics. The principle is simple, easy to realize and strongly practicable. The simulation and experiment results demonstrate the correctness and feasibility of this scheme. At last some related work about this work has been discussed.
