With the road traffic volumes increasing, the truck axle weight becomes heavier and the traffic requires trenching. There appears a high demand for raising the quality of the asphalt pavement as the main type of highway pavement. The important problem facing the highway researchers is how to reinforce the asphalt pavement to better the asphalt pavement's quality, to prolong the service life of the pavement and to improve the investment benefit.According to the research overseas and at homes, the asphalt modified by SBS and the concrete reinforced by fibers are adopted, Type AC-13I and AC-16I dense-graded aggregate and Bonifibers produced by Dupont corporation in America are used with the asphalt of Shell AH-70 and the asphalt modified by SBS. eight types of asphalt concretes are made, which are the general asphalt concrete, SBS modified asphalt concrete, the general asphalt concrete reinforced by Bonifibers and SBS modified asphalt concrete reinforced by Bonifebers. The stability under high temperature, the anti-crack ability under low temperature and the water resistance are tested for the eight types of asphalt concretes in lab. The parameter of the. Marshall stability of asphalt mixture, the Marshall stability of impregnated asphalt mixture, the dynamic stability in rut test of asphalt mixture, the tensile strength in cleavage of the mixture are researched by comparatively testing. The effect of fiber reinforcement and modified bitumen on the pavement performance is comprehensively researched by testing. The effect of Bonifibers reinforcement and SBS modified asphalt individually, and both, on the pavement performance are found out. The mechanism of asphalt modified concrete reinforced by fibers is analyzed theoretically.Based on the result of the experiment and analysis, with some research on fiber in home and overseas, the conclusions are drawn out. An improved method with better effect on the performance is proposed which will make a better use of and Bonifibers in practice.
