Today, the dynamic responses of structures under impact have been a hot research topic in civil engineering field. In this paper, the detailed dynamic response of K8 single-layer reticulated shells under impact has been studied with FEM software LS-DYNA. At the same time, the experimental investigation on a test model has been performed.The time-history curves of impact loads, members axial force responses, dynamic instability mode and destroy style have been obtained through the model test. Meantime, the static and dynamic stability behaviors of the test model have been analyzed with FEM software. And the calculated member axial forces, the P-A curvesand the critical load of dynamic instability of the test model have been obtained, which are identical with the results of test. For example, the experimental dynamic critical load of test model is 2383N, and its calculated value is 2200N.Based on the experimental investigation, a K8 single-layer reticulated shell with 40m span has been analyzed. Trough the calculation, the static and dynamic (elastic and in-elastic) characteristics of the shell have been obtained. Trough the modeling, the destroy process and mechanism of the single-layer reticulated shell under impact has been investigated.
