Traffic assignment is that the OD matrix is loaded onto the transportation network under some assignment models. The objectivity of traffic assignment lies on the accuracy of the transportation network, the assignment models and its' inputs.The improving of the process optimization, technique of computer, especially the Geographic Information System (GIS) has proved to be an efficient and effective tool for our studying on traffic assignment. TransCAD, a revolutionary system for transportation data management and analysis is the only package that fully integrates GIS with planning modeling and logistics applications. TransCAD is an excellent tool for studying KunMing traffic assignment models and model results.The project leaded on the Faculty of Transportation Engineering of Kunming University is proposed to resolve urban traffic problems of Kunming city from the view of system, and aim at developing a traffic science research system and giving a near future program in order to reshape Kunming urban transportation. The Traffic investigation and the origin-destination survey provided the database for the exact traffic assignment. Some strategies had been brought forward. The macroscopical evaluation of the plan and results needs the traffic assignment process.TransCAD is ideal for building transportation information and decision support systems. We have described in this paper our experience in using TransCAD to prepare a transportation network of Kunming and TAZs as inputs to traffic modeling. Based on model purpose, data availability, and model parameters, can vary significantly. The first part of the paper is devoted to studing on the assignment models, the input data for the assignment modeling and the parameters of the models. An OD estimationmodel, at this stage, the OD estimation model accepts as input the updated OD matrices and uses traffic counts, along with a series of other inputs, to estimate aggregate demand for the current interval. The second part deals with methods for measuring the effect of the several models, valuing the models and choosing the model being well suited for the condition of Kunming traffic. Finally, Applied the model to the project for the evaluation of the plan.This paper is the result of research into the modelling and efficient solution of problems in traffic assignment and related areas. The aim of the paper is to provide a utility account of the application of the KunMing traffic project. The studying is described and analyzed by use of the advanced software. Otherwise, This title will be of value and interest for the other traffic planners. Our pilot study should help us in other traffic planning projects.
