Interbasin diversion is an important strategy of China in 21st century. Through analyzing the development, present situation and trend of this field, this paper provides a new hydraulic control model for water diversion projects and introduces the Artificial Neural Network to optimize the performances of the controlled systems.This paper includes the following works: Propose a linear numerical model adapting to the dynamic characteristics of open channels through theoretical research. Give a linear numerical model oriented to hydraulic characteristics of pipe system, upper pool and pump. Investigate the automatic control measures on regulating the upper pool water level by variable speed pumps. Build an object oriented visual model for the hydraulic control of water diversion projects, based upon Simulink toolbox of MATLAB. Introduce Artificial Neural Network to the hydraulic control field to optimize the performances of the controlled systems.
