This article aims to introduce a methodology in terms of extendible designing based on the formularized building language of water-side residential areas. It delivers the definition of this method as well as its origin and tries to bring into mind the necessity to apply this method among middle or small-sized cities to the south of Yangzi river. It studies the modes and building languages of the water-side-towns in this region, trying to identify the regional characteristics in shapes, functions, organizations, constructions and structures, and analyzes and anticipates the trends and variations in modern landscape designings. It emphasizes five important elements in designing, gives them new definitions and inner qualities, and extends the meanings together with spirits of the modes and building languages, targeting at the continuous designing. Finally, it goes deep into the various combinations of these five elements, making and organizing them to work together, and finalize the water-side landscape designing in the view of the whole.
