With the increase of engine speed, the working condition is got more and moreconcerned by people. The design of cam profile directly affects not only the engine gasexchanging process but also the combustion process, the vibration, noise as well as partsand components wear out, especially under the high speed, the valves will fly off andrebound, which will cause damage to the gas exchanging process and parts quick wear out.Therefore, in the valvetrain, the design of cam profile is very important.Facing to some questions of cam profile simulating and machining met in 6D DieselEngine of Chaoyang Diesel Engine LTD, some research work has been done in this paper. Afew of smoothness and simulation methods of measuring cam profile are described. Thesimulation program of cam profile is compiled. And a cam profile of 6D Diesel Engine issimulated. Good simulation results have been obtained..Whether the cam profile can be in conformity with engine requirements greatly dependon machining and optimization. In this paper, two cam profile machining ways are given,with the comparison and analysis of model and CNC machining, which concludes that thetwo different machining ways produce different results for the cam profile machining andthe best machining way is suggested. In the study of cam profile optimization, the necessityof the cam profile optimization is pointed out. By the application of the relative software,we select acceleration curve as optimization target to assure the optimization of the liftcurve and the speed curve. In a word, this paper concludes that engines need optimized camprofile to get to the target of improving engine performance by the study of cam profilesimulation, machining and optimization.
