This subject comes of previous Military Department of Ministry of Machine-Building Industry. Its target is to develop an adjustable-speed motor with electromagnetic brake for crane used in explosive gas atmosphere circumstance.This subject involves explosion-proof, computer, motor, and brake technologies. Therefore, multi subject technologies are applied to the product. This subject makes a breakthrough at brake technology incapably applied to hazardous environment. The developed product is an electromechanical integrative product with high technology.A completely new motor that can brake exactly and quickly in explosive gas atmosphere circumstance has been developed in this object. It is suitable for national defense or military project because it can assure reliability of military product during operation. It can also be widely used in explosive gas atmosphere circumstance in petrochemical, petroleum, coal gas, and coal industries, which can protected the state property and life of people from damage and promote the development of national economy vigorously.In this paper, the domestic and foreign market situation and level of explosion-proof motors with double-speed and electromagnetic brake are analyzed firstly. Secondly the construction and characteristic of motor are emphatically analyzed; the pole-changing adjustable-speed mode and method of it are expounded; moreover, operation site, selection and explosion-proof mechanism of it are discussed. According to the particularity of this type of motor, simplified mathematical model is obtained using relevant theory, and calculating programs for computer is programmed which can accurately process the curves, figures and tables in calculation by mathematical formulas and interpolation, and the optimum design theory is applied to optimize the variables so as to form computer software. Aiming at a typical calculation example, the calculation is carried out, and the calculated results are analyzed and compared. The results indicate it can meet the requirements of engineering. The calculation and drawing can be accomplished by use of CAD. Therefore, the working efficiency has been raised greatly, and the difficulties on motor used for crane, speed adjustment, braking, and explosion protection applications respectively only are solved. For this type of motor, Explosion protection, electromagnetic brake and speed adjustment are organically combined. Finally, The difficult points on the manufacturing process of the motor are also described.
