Ocean energy is the richest energy on the earth. It is a kind of clean and reproducible energy. It has many advantages using ocean energy to generate electricity, such as economic, not occupying lands, not being influenced by the climate, not polluting environment. Ocean energy is a kind of new energy with high value and potential in use and will become a very important part in the future new energy. Our country has special ocean geographical advantages and is one of the areas that own vast tidal energy. So how to use tidal power to generate electricity is an urgent problem to deal with. The 70kw tidal power station uses the floating body as the carrier of tow turbines. In order to ensure the safety of the tidal power station it is very important to get out some simple and reliable method to design the mooring system. The main contents of this paper are:1. Based on the principles of 2-D strip method, the hydrodynamic forces acted on the floating body and the motions of the floating body are calculated. Based on the formula recommended by American Petroleum Institute, the wind force and current force are calculated.2. Before designing the mooring system of the 70kw tidal power station it is essential to know the principles and basic theory of mooring system design. So the static and dynamic mooring system design theories are introduced in this paper.3. According to the characteristics of the working zone of the tidal power stationthree mooring system design schemes are forwarded. From the comparison of the three schemes it is known that the third one is the best.4. This paper presents a series of graphs for the preliminary design of the mooring system of the 70kw tidal power station after calculating conditions of different water depths and mooring line properties. And the method of using the graphs is introduced.
