With the rapid development of power system and the interconnections of some power systems, stabilization monitoring and control of power system get more and more important. To synchronously Measure the parameters of power system can reveal the dynamic characteristics, and remedy the shortage of SCADA system and fault recording system which are now used to monitor the steady system operation. The goal of equipped synchronized phasor measurement units is to monitor the power system dynamics in real time, provide a foundation for power system stability or collapse valuing or forecasting and remideal control schemes.The aim of this paper is to study the key technologies of synchronized phasor measurement. The various applications of PMU to power system monitoring, protection and control are given, The basic structure and principle of PMU are Summarized; The design and the implement of a PMU are presented. The paper also analyses the error source that affects the precision of the PMU.The PMU in this design uses the 1 pulse per second (1PPS) from the GPS receiver as its referenced clock. A special circuit is designed that receives the GPS receiver's 1PPS pulse and prqduces high precision synchronized pulse. The synchronized pulse is used to control the convert of the A/D or the sampling of data. The design uses DSP to calculate the phasors based on DFT algorithm. The experiment results indicate that the PMU performance meets the demand for stability analysis.The characteristics of PMU data and their communication performance are studied in this paper based on IEEE1344, the IEEE Standard for Synchrophasors for Power System, and the real time control systems demand. The communication architecture for power system monitoring and control and the new standards are given. PMU communication structures are summarized. One structure for PMU Communication in the new substation system is proposed. A circuit design for a CPU chip with an Ethernet chip is giving.As an application of PMU to power system protection, a scheme design of a digital differential protection with PMU technology is given in the last of this.
