The design of conventional Power System Stabilizer (PSS) is usually made by using a linear model of the Power System for a given operating conditions ,whose parameters are normally fixed at the nominal operation conditions to achieve desired performance . The PSS with fixed parameter could improve the dynamic performance in a wide range of operating conditions for the small disturbance ,due to the system no far from the given operating points .But operating conditions of a Power System are continually changing due to load level, generation variarions, and line switching. In large disturbance of Power System, it is obvious that the conventions PSS doesn't guarantee system overall stability under varying operating conditions .With the development of modern control schemes ,more and more new control schemes have gradually put into PSS,for example linear optimization control scheme, adaptive control scheme etc.Generalized Predictive Control scheme(GPC) was proposed by Clarke in the mid-1980s,what was based on the parametric model of the controlled plant with the an adaptive mechanism .The GPC based on linear models has enjoyed a growing attention in this last few years, what is the better robust and the better control performance .The experimental studies and practical applications have demonstrated satisfactory control performance of GPC.The paper present a new method for PSS using GPC control scheme with an adaptive mechanism(AGPC-PSS).The model parameters are identified by using the recursive least squares with forgetting factor method .We use the structure of the GPC with adaptive mechanism for the control law design of the PSS .MATLAB is used as tool of the simulation .Based on the principle of MATLAB,the GPC block and RLS block are built by me by means of MATLAB's S-FUNCTION.The tests presented show good performance for this PSS.
