The thermoelectric effect, discovered more than 150 years, had been less applied in practical fields during more than 100 years because of its inefficiency. Until 1950's with the discovery of high performance materials, thermoelectric refrigeration technology began to be applied in engineering fields, but compared with other refrigeration technology such as mechanical refrigeration and absorbed refrigeration, its efficiency is lower, which limits its application and development in building environment refrigeration fields. However, thermoelectric refrigeration has many unique advantages, such as simple constructure, no moving parts, no pollution, precise control. So in some special refrigeration condition, it can't be substituted by other refrigeration technology. With the development of this technology, thermoelectric refrigeration has been regarded and applied in many fields gradually.On the basis of the analysis of fundamental principle of thermoelectric refrigeration, the steady state mathematical model of the thermoelectric system was founded. According to the model, the theoretical analysis and calculation are made on various working conditions, and analyzed theoretically the effects on thermoelectric system which caused by hot and cold temperature difference, the device's effective system figure of merit, the properties of the heat changers, which established theoretical basic for the opening up and design of the thermoelectric system and its performance test.A thermoelectric heat pump drying device was originally developed. When working in closed and opening cycle respectively, its heating performance factor reached 2.0 and 1.5 or so separately, compared with conventional electrothermal dryers ,its can save energy by 50% or so. The development of the thermoelectric heat pump dryer opens up new fields which thermoelectric principle applied in low-power home wiring, provided new path for the development of wasted heat recovery and the utilization of low temperature energy, and new way for home wiring saving energy.On the basis of the feasibility analysis of waste heat recovery and saving energy analysis of air conditioning energy consumption, taking hotels and commercial buildings for example, made a discussion of building energy saving and wasted heat recovery by thermoelectric heat pump devices. Taking the areas for example which insummer the weather is very hot ,and in winter it is very cold, made a analysis for thermal environment, and presented that dehumidification not only improves indoor environment greatly, but also decreases the consumption of air conditioning energy. On the basis, made a discussion of dehumidification by thermoelectric heat pump devices.
