The dissertation analyzes the effects on the form and development of Islamicarchitecture by the natural and cultural environments based on the expressions of theregional ingredients ranked in physical, functional and spiritual levels. It sums up thedeveloping directions and the enlightenments of the modern architectural design bythe traditional regional architecture research according to the analysis of thesuccessful practices of domestic and overseas. It includes the theory of architecturalculture as well as the thesis of phenomenology combined with the research methodsof architectural typology. It opens up a new point of view founded on the theories andpractices of predecessors. The contents are made up of seven chapters. First, it represents the meaning themotive and method of the subject which points out the research direction based on theinternational and domestic present status of architecture development. It speciallyintroduces the theory of architectural culture, phenomenology and architecturaltypology in order to make it clear about the standpoint of the research. In the beginning of main part, it clearly defines the concept of regionalism andgeneralizes the basic factors of regionalism theoretically from the aspect of theregional geography. The forming and development of any cities will never existwithout the natural and geographic environment as well as the social, economic andcultural situations. The former one is the precondition of the emergence and shapingof cities and the latter one is the power of its enlargement and development. As theabove, it explains the expressions of the regional ingredients ranked in physical,functional and spiritual levels among the Islamic regions including Xinjiang. It alsoabstracts the typical "Prototypes" by the research methods of the architecturaltypology. Though the three ranks are put into three single chapters, their contents aremixed sometimes because some of the "prototypes" are formed by the combinedforces of two or three factors. Then, it points out the developing directions and cluesof the modern regional architecture associated with the deep understanding of the III重庆大学硕士论文traditional Islamic spirits by the domestic and overseas successful projects. In the lastsection, the paper uses the detailed introduction and analysis of the design of theGreat Bazaar to expose the terminal intention of the research──explore the realregional architecture of the Islamic spirit and fully show its special characters.
