The folding structures is one kind of new-type structure system born and developing constantly with progress of science and technology in near these decades. Its most remarkable character is to being deployed (folded) convenient rapidly, small after folding, easy to transport and store and, used repeatedly, low request to the field and simple base setting, therefore in such as life, military affairs, spaceflight etc. fields the folding structures has extensive applications. On the basis of folding structures, the folding reticulated shell tent structure studied in this paper, is one kind of new-type folding light-duty metal structure system, which is formed after introducing the conception of long-span space structures. It's the first time to be developed in the nation and not merely there are no special design computing methods and rules, relevant research is less too. Therefore the research on the folding reticulated shell tent structure takes on very important significance in theory and application.Aim at the using status and self-characteristics, the control loads have been confirmed by analyzing and studying and the rational loads calculation methods have been set up. On the bases, the full-scale test on load-carrying capacity of the structure is presented with righting location method in this paper. Combined with non-linear F.E.M. analysis, the carrying mechanisms, feeble locations, buckling styles and buckling spreading process, failure mechanisms have been researched by tracking and analyzing the load-displacement complete process of the structure. Moreover, the ultimate load-carrying capacity has been acquired under the most disadvantageous load. The conformation, load carrying and deformation of the structure have been proved to be reasonable. The security and reliability of the structure under general working loads (tent deadweight load, snow load, wind load) have been estimated.The test research on full-scale folding reticulated shell tent structure not only provides experimental and theory foundation for all-round and deeper research and perfection of this new type structure, but also fills up the vacancy of full-scale test research for long-span spacestructures in our country.
