With the fleet development of industry, the updated progenies of fluid mechanics & aerodynamics are being used for the industrial products continuously. There are more and more large curved face work pieces, such as the runners of the hydro-generating units, the propellers of ships and aeroplanes, the appearance shape of automobiles and ships etc., which are the space curved face. The products with high quality will be guaranteed with the measurement method by the high precision instrument. The hydro generating unit of the Yangtze Three Gorges Project is the largest unit in the world. Its runner is the biggest Francis runner in the world. The runner's diameter is 10.43m. The blade of the runner is the special X shape, and its expanding area is 18m2. The intrinsic measuring method and equipments can't reach the requirement of high accuracy. This paper makes a detailed study on the measuring system for the runner blades of the Yangtze Three Gorges Project in the design theory and the application experiment fields. This text elucidates the basic principle, the design requirements and the technique key (that must be solved in the application) for the measuring system of hydro-turbine blade of the Yangtze Three Gorges Project, make a detailed elucidation about the new industrial measuring system by analyzing the diagraph indetermination for the measuring system of the runner blades of the Yangtze Three Gorges Project with the theoretical analysis and contrast test method, finally succeed in developing the measuring system of the runner blades of the Yangtze Three Gorges Project. The above-mentioned measuring system owns the characteristics of the big diagraph scope, high accuracy, portable and low limit to the environment. It is very suitable for the mechanical workshop. It can not only measure the geometrical dimensions of the blades of the Yangtze Three Gorges Project, but also measure the geometrical dimensions of the curved face work pieces, such as the wicket gates of hydro-turbine and large molding tools etc. This measuring system has already been used for the measurement of runner blades of the Yangtze Three Gorges Project. Up to now, finish the measurement for the blades of unit No.14 runner and unit No.13 runner. It also makes a big functions in the measurement for the projects of Xiao Lang Di, Long Tan, Er Tan, Huang Long Tan and Gong Bo Xia. Its development success makes the manufacturing precision of runner blades higher, leads to increase the efficiency of hydro-turbine, and produce the big economical and social benefit.
