Hydro turbine governing system is a complex restriction nonlinear systems whichalso include the mutual influence of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical effects. Its basicgoal is to real-time adjusted the active power based on the grid frequency changes, thusthe turbine rotational speed could be maintained within the specified range and thefrequency could be kept stable. The capability is directly related to the whole powersystem operation security and the electric energy quality. With more and more largegenerator sets into operation, hydropower station plays an increasingly important role inthe grid, the dynamic quality of governing system has higher requirements. The commonlinear model is not applicable for large fluctuations and large capacity units, it isparticularly important to establish a stable and adaptable nonlinear model.This paper discusses the simulation test research status quo of hydro turbinegoverning system. Yunnan Power Grid rely mainly on large capacity hydropower units,the model establishment is based on an real hydroelectric power plant650MW francisturbine generator set, the Hydro turbine governing system is established as mechanismnonlinear model in the Matlab/Simulink Toolbox. From the comparison between actualoperating conditions and simulation results of no-load disturbance frequency, loaddisturbance and load shedding, it can be proven that the nonlinear turbine model iscorrect and reliable.In the end, According to the influence analysis of the parameter variation ongoverning system dynamic response quality, the particle swarm optimization is selectedto optimize the nonlinear turbine model and the dynamic response quality is improved tobetter tracking and reacting actual site situation.
