In order to keep up economic development, PANGANG Company carried out the technical improvement for hot-rolling mill and cold-rolling mill. The hot-rolling mill can produce large-specification roll of steel plates with diameter 2000mm, length 1170mm and weight 23 ton. Because of the increase of the roll, the mode for transporting it must be changed from vertical direction to horizontal direction. So, it is very important to solve this problem of providing raw material (large-specification roll of steel plates) for cold-rolling mill. This thesis is aimed at studying and developing horizontal transporting equipment for large-specification roll of steel plates, whose name is the truss for transporting the roll of steel plates.This thesis consists of following parts:1. In the light of the regulations of transporting the goods on rail and technical requirement, design scenarios of the truss is analyzed and compared, finally one scenario is selected. That is a bracket with "door" shaped end pillar. 2. After the transporting process is divided into three cases: constant speed, starting/braking and turning, the weight, inertia and centripetal forces are calculated, respectively.3. Finite Element Method is applied to analyze the deflections of the truss and stress distribution of the components. Based on the margin of load-capacity of the components, some modification measures are presented.4. The trial-produce of the truss is done and the destructive tests on rail are completed. The results from the tests show that the truss can satisfy technical requirements. A batch of production of the truss is carried out from Nov. 2003 This research provides a design and analysis method for developing the truss for transporting the roll of steel plates, and can be directly applied into the factory. At the same time, it gives theoretical strategy for design the same type of truss.
