For thereasons of the new-building is distinct from rebuilding and expanding, the studying of that is very signify andforecasting. There are mainly two aspects which can cause road reconstruction. One is that although the technicalstandard of a project were originally worked out the basis of satisfying the predicted traffic volume 20 years afterthe completion of the project, since the development of traffic is hard to predict, deviation always exists,especially in the economy-booming areas or during economy high-speed period. The other is that since rapiddevelopment of traffic, loaded cars, overloads or defects in pavement design and construction, some high=classroad pavements could be damaged before the designed service life. Road reconstruction has become an urgenttask. The mileage of road reconstruction will increase year after year. Road reconstruction will take substantialpart in the industry of road construction, Two points need to be considered in road reconstruction. One is capacity expansion of road, that is toupgrade the traffic capacity to ease the traffic burden through road widening reconstruction . The other is therepair of road, that is to restore the service level of road, to cure subgrade illness, to recover drainage system andto rebuild bridge and culvert structures. This article studies reconstruction and expansion methods of oldways. The scale of technical standard ofreconstruction are demonstrated through traffic analysis and prediction, calculation of traffic-carrying capacityand assessment of service level. Moreover, this article puts forward points of attention concerning the engineeringsurvey of road rebuilding, and analyzes and compares those points with that of new road building. Thirdly,according to the survey and analysis of the existing road, it also discusses plans of the plan and profile of road,intersection and interchange, and raises some needing attention in construction. At first, the paper discusses themethod and the fundamental of the plane-conformity design and the vertical-conformity design.
