The highway traffic, especially the freeway traffic has been developed rapidly since the eighties of the twentieth century. While traffic accident shows a tendency to increase, especially the rear-end collision accident which is the most representational accident form. Based on this premise, the correlative technologies about vehicle safety driving assist system are studied in this paper. The main research works are presented as follows:First, based on the theoretically analyzing of the safety driving assist system, the applied counting model of the safe following distance between two vehicles on freeways is established. Control algorithms, which are PID and fuzzy control tactics, are detailed in this paper. It studied the principles of the control algorithms. Several kinds of controllers compatible to safety driving assist system are designed and tested through theory analysis and simulation experiments.Second, the vehicle safety driving assist system is equipped with microwave radar and laser radar. For providing accurate measurement of the relative distance and relative speed, the fourth rank Kalman filter model is proposed. Through simulation experiments, it is proved that the model is reliable.Additionally, the design and application of general-purpose measurement control board (ECU) for safety driving assist system is described. The board is used to detect sensor signals, such as analog signals, digital signals and pulse signal, and to control the throttle executor and brake executor.
