In this thesis, the nonlinear static analysis of Xiaoguan Bridge is done under the effect of their own weight and the wind load with the use of limit element method, in which the reciprocity of pier-soil-structure. Also the stability of the pier in the construction is analyzed. The concrete contents are as follows:1. A computational model, which is used to analyze the nonlinear static behavior of the pier, is established by use of space beam element.2. The nonlinear analysis methods and formulations of the bridge structure are discussed. Based on some literatures, spatial stiffness matrix for a space element is formed using the U.L Formulation (i.e. the Updated Lagrangian Formulation) in which axial force-bending moment interaction is considered by geometric matrix and the change of the bridge geometry due to large displacement by the altering axis method.3. The effect of the vertical force on the pier stiffness and the interaction among the level, bending and torsion displacement is also studied. A stiffness matrix is adopted to consider the interaction between the foundation and the pier of the bridge.4. A geometric analysis program is developed and debugged, in which the interaction of pier-soil-structure is considered. The program includes several modals that are the formulation of the whole stiffness matrix and the whole load matrix, the solving of the equation and the output of data.5. By using the energy method, the stability analysis of the pier is researched, in which the effect of the foundation is considered.6. The nonlinear static behavior and the stability behavior of the Xiaoguan Bridge are analyzed by use of the formulations and program in the text. Some useful conclusions, which can be used and consulted in the bridge designs and constructions, are deduced. And some factors which have effects on the stability of the bridge piers are studied, with some useful results of which are derived.
