The study results in this paper are partial results of "the road property and quality appraisal of earth and rock mixture" which is one subobjects of western traffic science and technological project "earth and rock fill road bedding technology" authorized by ministry of communications. The test samples of soils are collected from the road bed filling element of Yu Qian highway. The large-scale triaxial equipment which diameter 30cm is adopted to study the road property and quality appraisal of earth and rock mixture in laboratory test. The laboratory research is finished by connection of modern testing technique and modern computer simulation.The road bed filling element of Yu Qian highway is dark aubergine incohesive earth and rock mixture. The engineering properties of earth and rock mixture behave with good compacting effect, strong perviousness, large packing density, high shear strength, small settlement deformation, high bearing power etc. So it is widely used in engineering construction. With the extension of the earth and rock mixture application, the study of this soil will be deeper gradually.In the past, the compaction method was adopted, mainly study the compaction density. However, the deformation properties and strength properties of road foundation filled with earth and rock mixture were studied unsystemicly. But the deformation properties and strength properties are important part components of the main engineering index of earth and rock materials. In addition, they are the basis in the stability analysis of the earth-rock engineering. The study on the mechanical property of earth bank filling can guides actual engineering and provide reference basis for the establishment of the corresponding measure.In order to study the mechanical property of earth and rock mixture deeply, this paper makes systematic laboratory experiment and computer modeling studies on this kind of materials.In the process of laboratory tests, the basis physical index, such as density, gravel and maximal gain size are selected as the control factors, on the one hand, there parameters can be got from engineering practice easily, on the other hand, they affect upon mechanical property is obviously and can be manually operated. By laboratory tests, the variational test parameters corresponding to different affecting factors can be introducing these parameters numerical modeling calculation. We can understand the influence of different affecting factors on earth bank settlement deformation and stability ulteriorly. The mainly contents of research work in this paper conclude:1. Carrying out the routine test required by the traffic code and getting the results of the stress-strain relation and Duncau-Chang model parameters;2. With ourselves features, making Chengdu science and technology university K-G model test, and getting the strength parameter and stress- strain relation and comparing with routine test parameters;3. Adopting multi-stage loading pattern in one test sample, carrying out multiple large-scale triaxial tests with different density, different content of grain size and different maximal particle diameter, getting the shear strength index and stress- strain relation of earth and rock mixture under different affecting factors;4. Based on the strength behavior and its changing rule resulted from laboratory tests, building up the constitutive relation of earth and rock mixture, studying the affect of different factors on mechanical property of earth bank filling earth and rock mixture. By introducing the built up constitutive mode into the corresponding model and finite element numerical modeling calculation;5. By the studies of laboratory tests and numerical modeling, analyzing the influence of different stress path, different density, different content of grain size and different maximal particle diameter on earth bank settlement deformation and stability.By the study of laboratory tests, this paper comes to the following conclusions that: test path has little influence on earth and rock...
