Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a fast developing technology for medical diagnosis in vivo. But till now, there still isn't exist well-accepted physical models of OCT. This paper uses Monte Carlo simulation and Mie theory to build up the OCT model. Our research is focus on finding a new model which can explain the behaviors of light propagation in high scattering medium such as tissue. The present thesis consists of six chapters. The content of each chapter is listed below:Chapter 1: The history and the latest trend of the optical coherence image development, and the aim of this research project.Chapter 2: Basic theory and principal of optical coherence tomography.Chapter 3: Discuss some well-developed electromagnetic wave theories which are used in describing light propagation in high scattering medium. Light scattering theory which is widely accepted to solve the problem about photons scattering in tissue. We also need to review the classic electromagnetic wave theory: Mie theory, which will be used in our solution.Chapter 4: Monte Carlo simulation. An introduction about Monte Carlo simulation. And discuss and explain how Monte Carlo modeling of light transport in multi-layered tissues (MCML) works. Then we extended MCML using Mie theory to simulate coherence light transport in multi-layered tissues.Chapter 5: Numerical simulation. In this chapter we coded our Monte Carlo simulation based on Mie theory in C++, and then we used the program to simulating some cases. The simulation results were discussed.Chapter 6: Conclusion and foresee. What we get at last and what should we do in the future. This thesis developed a new model to simulated coherence light transport in high scattering medium. Our simulation based on this model fit the experimental data verywell. This method provides us a good and reliable way to study the optical coherence imaging.
