The excitation controller, as a very important control equipment in the power system, has a direct influence to the economic and dependable run of the synchronous generator and the stability of the power system.Traditional PID controller has the characters of simple structure, robustness, easy to implement and so on and has been applied widely with a very good control effect. But, as the scale and capacity enlargement of the power system, the traditional PID excitation controller can' t meet the needs, it is imperative to find a better control algorithms. In order to overcome the shortcomings of traditional PID controller, Fuzzy control, that doesn' t need the accurate model of the controlled target and has wonderful adaptability, is combined with the traditional PID controller to form many kinds of Fuzzy-PID controllers, but on the other hand the Fuzzy-PID controller is unable to change the parameters of it once the parameters are confirmed and can' t adapt to change automatically. So, it still needs to be further improved.In this paper, it is proposed that Fuzzy PID algorithms is applied to the synchronous generator excitation control system based on studying the Fuzzy control and the GA(Genetic Algorithms) on the whole. Simulation researches are carried on to the following controllers: the Fuzzy-PID excitation controller and the Fuzzy-PID excitation controller optimized by GA(Genetic Algorithms) . The simulation results show that the excitation controller designed in this paper has a better effect than the traditional one. Finally, on the basis of the computer simulation, a lot of experiments are carried on to the DSP-based excitation controller using the Fuzzy-PID excitation algorithms designed in this paper. The result of the experiments indicates that the excitation controller has a good static and dynamic performance and has a certain practical value.
