In the scientific research and production of shipping and hydraulic structure, the measurement and analysis to the form and size of wave is needed. Now the resistance type or the capacitance type of wave-height gauge is always used in measurement methods to wave movement. However, there are many limitations and shortages in the traditional measure method, such as the non-linear errors of different sensors, contacting measurement and et al.In this thesis, the author develops a newly, more effective measurement method through computer vision. The information of wave movement can be conserved by CCD lens, the computer calculates and deals with the data collected by collection card and pretreatment, so we can gain the parameters of wave movement. The system not only leads to the higher accuracy, but also reduces the influence to wave movement and realizes the non-contact measuring process. Meanwhile, it improves the automatic level of the ship model experiment to Dalian University of Technology.Firstly, this thesis introduces the development and application of computer vision technology, and also illuminates the hardware equipments used in the system. Secondly, this thesis analyses the measurement principle and the software arithmetic in the system, and introduces the method to calibrate CCD camera. Finally, the author sets up a binocular vision measurement model, and compile the measure system software based on Virtual C++ environment. With the software, the author measures and calculates various kinds of parameters of wave movement, and analyses the system error.
