Earthquakes are one of the major natural disasters that threaten the human race. Earthquakes occur frequently in china. Earthquake area is widely distributed in china. It is difficult to accurately forecast in advance when and where an earthquake will happen. The goal that is prepared against the earthquake is limit failure of build structure and financial losses and to avoid a heavy toll of lives.(casualties). In recent year many country in the world take different measures for the purpose of both safe and economic.Issued "code for seismic design of building" for mally in July of 2001 (GB5011-2001). There are sizable adjustment and change in code the content, scope of application and concrete technological measure etc, revision clause of code receive earthquake experience and uses the foreign code for reference. With china joins the world trade organization, International Corporation of china is gradually increase. The difference and influence between china code and abroad code are more and more attended. It is very necessary to analyze the difference to hold the idea of the china code and from the analysis to find and discover problems is also essential to guild the application.Comparing the provision of Chinese code and European code for seismic design of building, their differences is pointed out and lay the foundation for a through understanding of the actual state and orientation of development in this field. Offer assistance for revised Chinese seismic design code and understanding European code. The conclusions drawn from the analysis are helpful to local modification of the codes and understand European code. It is helpful to bring Chinese code more in line with international practice.This paper includes the several contents as followed:1) Based on the same probability of exceedance, basic structural shear conversate into earthquake action. Compare the shear force of bottom accord to shear force coefficient of bottom under the earthquake action. The difference of limiting value of earthquake action in difference period.2) Through comparing the provisions of Chinese code and European code about seismic shear capacity and minimum ratios of reinforcement in reinforced concrete column and beam in seismic.Their various limiting values were illustrated. The scheme for the limiting value of seismic shear capacity and minimum ratios of reinforcement is evaluated and minimum ratios are put forward.3) Through comparing the provisions of Chinese code and European code about minimum ratios of reinforcement in reinforced concrete column and beam in seismic.Their various level of evaluation of minimum reinforcement ratio limiting were illustrated. On the basis of comparison about evaluation of minimum longitudinal reinforcement ratio between Chinese code and European code. The level of evaluation of minimum reinforcement ratio in Chinese code is given.4) In the end, what has been done in this paper is summarized, and the problems that need ulteriorly be studied are pointed out.
