Fatigue is one of the main reasons that cause the parts of the helicoptertransmission system their failure. It is important that the fatigue strength and life areestimated in design. In this paper, the statistically theoretical basics are discussedfrom reliability and safety. The methods of fatigue life estimation are given, includinggeneral method, nominal stress method, DFR method and local stress-strain method.The calculations of average fatigue limit, fatigue limit reduction factors and fatiguelife limit scatter factors are studied, and their methods are analyzed. The paper alsoshows how to select the number of testing specimens. Based on the method in thispaper and MatLab software, the software of fatigue life estimation of the helicoptertransmission system elements is developed. The general frame and menu of soft-wareare formed and programmed. The calculations are made by the developed softwareand the results are satisfied.
