A 6kVA Aviation Static Inverter (ASI) is developed in this paper. The ASI consists of the DC link, which concludes the four isolated DC-DC converters and the AC link, which adopts the cascade inverter with instantaneous capacitor-current feedback. Firstly, the operation of the asymmetrical half-bridge (AHB) converter is analyzed in detail, and the ZVS conditions for the switches are deduced in theory. The small-signal model is also presented. The results of simulation and experiments are given, which verified the theoretic analysis. Secondly, in order to reduce the diode voltage stress, an improved AHB converter is proposed. The operation principle of the improved AHB converter is introduced, and the results of both the simulation and the experiments show that the voltage stress on the diodes of the improved AHB is lower than the voltage stress on the diodes of the traditional. Thus, the improved AHB converter is employed as the DC link of the ASI. Thirdly, the AC link of the ASI was designed. Finally the 6kVA aviation static inverter is built and the results of experiment are given.
