Indoor air distribution plays a key role in indoor air environment. It is necessary to get sufficient knowledge of the indoor air velocity distribution, temperature distribution, and pollutant concentration distribution. Indoor airflow is a complicated process. In practical cases, it is determined by the building' geometry, diffuser configuration and location ,exhaust location, air velocity and direction at the diffuser, heat sources and so on. This article studied the influence of heat and pollutant sources on indoor air environment in a VAV air conditioned office with the application of professional CFD software. At first, a comparison of the results given by the Numerical simulation with data obtained form the published work of Tavakkol et al. was taken to validate the standard three-dimensional K -ε two-equation turbulence model and the simplified Square diffuser model. Secondly, the effects of varying the heat source area, heat source height, heat source location and heat source power on the jet's decay, spread, and the separation from the ceiling were investigated. Lastly, this article took a VAV air conditioned office as the research object and simulated the indoor air environment with varying heat-pollutant sources distribution and then evaluated the thermal condition, "Mean age of air" of the occupied zone. The numerical simulation results indicated that heat sources can influence the jet's characeteristic; Internal heat sources can influence the jet by as much as a factor of two, one is the negative buoyancy and the other is the secondary natural convective flows produced by heat sources; When the air flow rate less than 50 percent of the peak flow rate, air jet will be influenced only by negative buoyancy; Reasonable heat-pollutant sources layout can provide a thermally comfortable and high air quality working environment for the occupants.
