Hyperbolic cooling tower is a kind of high space thin shell structure which is mainly subjected to wind loading. It takes a important role in electrical engineering field et, and has a significant meaning in the field of the water saving, energy conservation, protecting environment against pollution. Specially, reinforced concrete hyperbolic cooling tower is most widely used. The technology has been widely applied overseas which makes an opening in the body of the constructing or constructed cooling tower for desulfuration.The research of this article just bases on the study of the many full-scale measurements, model tests and theory analysis form inland or overseas. A model about finite element method and analysis of the hyperbolic cooling tower has been set up in this article by the general ground software—ANSYS, which is used to discuss the mechanical behaviors of the cooling tower under the wind loading and the gravity. Through the calculation and analysis, the article has discussed the problem of structure strength and structure stability which the opening throws on the body of cooling tower and the sides of the hole in the desulfuration alteration project. Based on the need of practice project, the article has analyzed the rule of stress distributing on the whole body of the tower and the surrounding part of the opening which caused by the size, the height, the figure of the opening and the angle between the local dominant wind and the opening et.. At the same time, the article has carried through the analysis of thedynamical behaviors and the seismic response of the cooling tower and concluded a analysis way for the structure opening design of the tower. The article tried to bring the available theoretical foundation and practical suggestion to the design, reinforcing and constructing of the opening making in the cooling tower desulfuration alteration.In order to automate the model making process under the control of the settled parameters, the article has composed a certain analysis programs by the ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL) on the ground of the ANSYS software. These programs can be generally applied, therefore, they can benefit for the research and design of the questions alike.
