The static var generator (SVG) is an important Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) controller. It is a kind of device, which is based on power convertor and can compensate reactive power of electronic system, and is the important component of Flexible AC Transmission System in electronic industry and has emerged in recent years. It applies electric and electronic technology, technology of the computer and modern control technology to the power system. Through the control of outputting voltage amplitude and phase of the device, it can implement flexible and fast control to the network parameter and network structure of the power system, can regulate continuously the reactive power in the whole range from capacitive reactive power to inductive reactive power, reach to compensate rapidly the demand for the reactive power of the system, thus can suppress the voltage fluctuating and strengthen systematic stability. In this paper, the development and current situation of SVG is first presented. After analyzing its operation principle, then the control method are designed. Furthermore, the main power circuit taking electric electronic component IGBT as key device, the control circuit based on digital signal processor DSP and the control software with the key content SPWM have been designed. With the hardware circuit and control software analyzed and designed above, the experimental SVG device has been developed. Various kinds of characteristic tests, which verify the feasibility of this device, have been carried on .All this work lays the good technological foundation in order to study SVG device. In addition, these...
