As the main damage of rail, the rail corrugation - the appearance of more or less regular peaks and troughs on the running surface of the rail - refer to dynamics, contact mechanics and tribology. It is very important to study the formation mechanism and solutions of rail corrugation for enhancing the stability and economy signification of rail transmission.The formation process of corrugation is the feedback mechanism of vehicle-track coupling dynamics and rail damage mechanism. As the joint of vehicle system and track system, wheel-rail interaction is the important part of the feedback mechanism. According to the Carter's theory and elastic-plastic finite element method, a finite element model of plastic flow corrugation is established by ANSYS. Then, considering the vibration characteristics of wheel-set and wheel-rail vertical resonance theory, a plastic flow corrugation analysis model has been build up.The development of rail plastic flow corrugation and the material deformation under repeated rolling contact has been computed, including the vibration parameters characteristics. The foundation has been established for further study of rail corrugation by more complex model.
