Expressway Asphalt Pavements Structures Designing Study

This paper is particularly studied the bituminous concrete pavements structures, which are widely used in expressway.Bituminous concrete pavements have the advantages of convenient construction, no construction period maintenance time, convenient and easy for later stage maintenance, stable and comfortable and low noise for driving. They are variedly applied in high-class highways, especially in expressway both in the country and abroad.In the country, the deep study, development and large-scale application of asphalt pavements were just started in recent ten years or more with the progress of expressway construction. In the course of asphalt pavements design, there are still quite a lot of problems needed to be researched, such as the thickness of base course, the dividing and thickness of surface course and the design of proportioning, and so on. Even for Standard Specification for Design Highway Asphalt Pavements, which is compiled by the Ministry of Communication, is, either, needed to be continuously improved in engineering practice. Because the time limitation of design and construction, the degrees of survey and study are not high enough, which leads the asphalt pavements are partly seriously damaged at the beginning of pavements for-hire transportation.To these problems of asphalt pavements design and construction, this paper is focused on the survey and analysis of the developing state of the makeup and thickness of pavement structures ofpractically andrepresentatively high-class highways, especially expressways all over Sichuan and west China, even the whole country and abroad asphalt pavements design and construction. This article summarised the typical pavement structures and thickness composes based on the unique weather, hydrology and raw materials in Sichuan.
