With the increase of the product's complexity, the development of product more and more trends towards the collaborative working of many discipline's experts. Using multidisciplinary collaborative design, product's all discipline performances can be thought as a whole, the conflict among disciplines can be harmonized and solved. As a result, the development cycle and cost can be reduced, and product quality can be improved.In this paper, the system hierarchy supporting multi-discipline collaborative design is established above distributed component and network middleware technique. The relationship among disciplines and the collaborative design process of the system is realized by the construction of multidisciplinary product model and distributed constraint network model and the development of constraint resolving algorithm. About the construction of system hierarchy, the collaborative design system is realized by the use of distributed component and discipline agent technique, the establishment of systems software bus using middleware, and embedment of component above the software bus. About the modeling of product, the product information model is the integration of function, behavior, form, relationship and constraint information. The support capacity of multidisciplinary collaborative design of the product information model is realized by the use of the object-oriented method and the technique of inheritance and interface. About the construction of constraint network, the first step is the construction of the project constraint network and the discipline constraint network, in which the discipline constraint network is a mapping of the project one in the discipline field. The second step is the association among all discipline constraint networks and project one by the use of constraint relationship. The multi-discipline constraint network is constructed sequentially. About the solve and the implement of the constraint network, the parallel control problem, the dead lock problem, the consistency maintenance problem and the collaborative constraint operation problem are be discussed in detail. A time based lock-adding algorithm is conceived to manage all the problems above. Furthermore, the solving process of the distributed constraint is realized by the use of middleware-based remote constraint solving algorithm. According to the research methods above, a web-based multidisciplinary collaborative design prototype system is developed on the java programming surrounding, by the use of Java Servlet, JSP and RMI technique. The system capacity is be tested by the clutch design process. The research of this paper has great effect on the multidisciplinary collaborative design of product under distributed network environment.
