At present, the progress of residential developments in China is at its peek and iscontinuously growing. These residential developments reflect a multifaceted characteristic, whichblends with the cultural, social, ecological and economic conditions. With this current wave ofdevelopments, one factor plays a pivotal role in achieving each character objectives, and that isLandscape. It is with the landscape that these residential developments can truly achieve thecharacteristics and appeal each individual development requires, which in turn makes them standout among the rest of developments. This thesis include three chapters; chapter one describe the existing circumstances ofresidential districts in cotemporary China by investigating residential developers, designers andresidents, which focuses on self-knowledge in pursuit of residentialculture; chapter two shows thevarieties of residentialculture through research residential pattern and space form in the past andpresent; chapter three comprises the studies, conclusions and a series of design guidelines forresidentialculture development, from nonfigurative cultural meaning and translated into embodiedlandscape form.. The thesis expresses and demonstrates the factors and methods of residential culture and itsmeaning, with specific focus on residential landscape. These can be derived from the designer'sdesire or the developer's market interest, as well as some methods coming from resident'severyday life. This thesis consists of about 50,000 Chinese words with 116 illustration and 1tables.
