Study Of Post-Industrial Landscape

Post-Industrial Landscape design is a new paradigm of landscape design, which emerged in 1960's~1970's, and quickly developed in the 1990's. With the transformation from Industral Society to Post-Industrial Society, the western countries encountered the decline of traditional industry, consequently there came out a mass of industrial dereliction and wasteland. Beyond the restoration of ecosystem and landscape regeneration, they carefully preserved and reused the industrial heritage. Post-Industrial Landscape design had become a new paradigm of landscape design with its own object and a complete set of theories and methodology. China is just in the period of new-type industrialization and accelerated urbanization. With the transition of industrial structure and resourses exhaustion, the industrial wasteland and run-down industrial facilities are increasing in China. The government just presents the policy of Redevelopment of old industrial area and the sustainable development concept. Putting forward the post-industrial landscape regeneration and eco-restoration by the landscape strategy and to preserve and reuse the industrial heritage resourses is an urgent task.Most of domestic study of the western post-industial landscape is case intrudution, lacking in systematic study taking it as a specific landscape design field. This thesis is an elementary comprehensive study of Post-Industrial Landscape theory and practice. Based on the abundant design works of westrn countries, the thesis tries to define and establish a framework of Post-Industrial Landscape concept and methodology; The thesis reviews the evolution of Post-Industrial Landscape practice, partition the course into several historic stages, with the historical study method; Also the thesis makes the case study of Post-Industrial Landscape Park by different countries and areas; After that, the thesis analyses the design technique of Post-Industrial Landscape Park and presents three design pattern of Post-Industrial Landscape Park in conclusion; Furtherly the thesis summarizes the theoretical background and the methodology of Post-Industrial Landscape Paradigm; After the study of western practice, the thesis studies Chinese post-industrial landscape design practice. With the project of "Weihai Shipyard Park", the thesis presents some suggestion on Chinese Post-Industrial Landscape practice strategy.
