Prestressed pier is usually used as the bearing structure of large grade arch gate, because the dimension of the discharge hole can be increased, and the collocation of release works will be more convenient if prestress technique is adopted in pier structure. Prestressed pier is widely used in the hydropower projects of our country from GEZHOUBA project. Researches are mainly focused on the perstressed piers with anchor block as the bearing structure before, and less researches on the extended contilever prestressed pier of arch dam with deep beam as the bearing structure, so more researches are needed for the latter. On the other hand, the pull-anchor coefficient of the prestressed pier is on the high side at large in our country, so in order to increase the prepressing effectiveness of the anchor wires and reduce cost, optimization research is required on the body type and the tonnage of the anchor wire. In this paper, research works are developed on the above problems, and the major studys are as follows:(1) Study the interface technique among ANSYS, GID and SURFER, so to increase the efficiency of FEM analysis;(2) Study the optimization design method combined with parametric FEM and mathematical programming in ANSYS, and use it to optimize the design of prestressed pier.(3) Study the working behavior of the prestressed pier, and analyze the influences of different loads and anhor wires to the stress condition of key positions.(4) Optimize the anchor wires tonnage of the prestressed pier, so to increase the prepressing effectiveness of the anchor wire and reduce pull-anchor coefficient.
