In this paper, The domestic experiences in fast-construction of concrete arch dam by mixing with gentle MgO expansive cement were firstly reviewed. Accordance with design standard and construction code, the suggested principle and method of mixed gentle MgO expansive mass concrete are presented in detail. The design of mixed MgO project must be satisfied some demands, for example, MgO steady, criteria of dam stress, condition of construction and technique, etc. Meanwhile, the range of MgO mixture should be suitable for different condition. The effect of MgO compensation to concrete shrinkage was dynamically varied with several condition such as concrete age, temperature, etc. The traditional invariable analysis may make mistake and computer simulation is quite useful to the design. The above researches were applied on the design of BaMei's arch dam in Guangdong Province. Facts proved such MgO mixture is successful in the design. That method is guidance for other projects.
