In this paper the demonstration of plain area hydrology and hydrodynamics models are given, by the analysis of which the reguirements of GIS's application in it are raised, furthermore, the motheds are discussed. It is possible to deal with large quantity of mettorologic and spatial data because of the development of information digitalization and computer technology. Therefore, hydrology model has been integrating with the model of riverway hydrodynamics.Firstly, GIS's new applications in traditional hydrology are introduced; secondly, the application of GIS in plain area hydrodynamics is the emphasis in this paper. What are the specifications and how to realize the requirements of GIS's application in hydrodynamics model is decided by the following aspects;the construction of drainage area water dynamics model parameters filtering and the comparasion and selection of different operation schemes.GIS can be applied in several branches: the creation of generalized map, overlapping of information in hydrology model, modification of fundamental data in filtering procedure, setting up of riverway maintenance information and dynamic display of running time information. At last, one example of GIS's application in the typical plain area network-Wenling is given in demonstrating the point of this paper.
