The common method used in the software for flexible multibody dynamic analysis, such as the DADS and the ADAMS, was briefly introduced in this paper. With the help of a general symbolic computation software MATHEMATICA, the formulas involved in the dynamic modeling of a general flexible multibody system was derived, in which the method of Lagrange equation combining with finite element technique was used. According to the format of the resulted formulas derived by the MATHEMATICA and the coding format for FORTRAN, a C program was designed to complete the transformation from MATHEMATICA result to FORTRAN code. Furthermore, based on the study of numerical methods for solving DAEs and Differential Equations with Stiffness, the software of DAFPS (dynamic analysis for plane systems) was developed, with the correctness and validity tested by some typical examples. By analyzing numerical results, short comings in the models constructed through the current method was discussed, also done was the test for improving the numerical characteristics of dynamic models. Finally, the possible directions were given for the further study in this field.
