Some new thoughts and advanced techniques appeared one after another by increasingly constructing of Concrete-Faced Rockfill Dam (CFRD)which about to plan or already in process, however, what kind of affect extruded curb could bring to concrete face slab, further argumentation and analysis was needed. This paper deal with mainly about CFRD using extruded curb and a real project was modeled to conduct analysis. Dencan-Chang constitutive model and mid-point increment method applying widely in rockfill material was added into program by further development using ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL). The course of dam construction and water storing was simulated by using element birth and death technique and restart technique, the contact between face slab and extruded curb was emulated by ANSYS node-to-surface contact method, especially, the nonlinear combination element was set originally to deal with vertical joints and perimeter joints. On the foundation of above-mentioned, the stress and deformation of dam and concrete face slab were computed respectively in two different cases: using extruded curb and without curb, next, the destruction condition of vertical joints, perimeter joints and face slab was analyzed through contrasting the two different cases from point ofview of extruded curb' s role in the process. The ultimate aim of this paper is to provide numerical calculation result , supporting construction and design of CFRD, and serving for high quality project construction as well. A large number of graph and chart was present in this paper after numerical evaluation of CFRD' s construction and operating period using APDL. The contrast result indicates that concrete face slab has better condition in the case of using extruded curb whatever deformation or stress is concerned. The achievement of this paper not only offers a argumentation and analysis forthe new emerged technique-extruded curb, provides first-hand technicalsupport to it' s development and application, but also having important reference value to analogous projects which implement the technique.
