Since the first HVDC project has operated in 1954, the technology of HVDC developed rapidly with the advance rapidly of the technology of power electronics. It has the advantage in long distance power transmission and interconnection between power grids, and it has powerful supplement to the technology of AC power transmission and worldwide applicable. Our country has a vast territory and the strategy of power grid is power transmission from West to East and supply between South and North. This gives a great chance for application of HVDC. According to national program, at the end of the year of 2030, there will be 20 HVDC projects.But china behinds developed country in HVDC technology. The market of HVDC has occupied by foreign big companies such as SIEMENS and ABB. To speed up technology of HVDC, our country imports the advanced HVDC technology from SIEMENS and ABB. In order to test the imported HVDC technology, Government builds a first Back-to-Back HVDC project in Lingbao. And we must use our own HVDC technology in Lingbao Back-to-Back HVDC project.This paper describes the application of Siemens's HVDC technology imported by XJ Group in Lingbao HVDC project. Firstly, state the formation of HVDC system, mainly on two-point HVDC system, secondly, describe the whole control system in the Lingbao Back-to-Back HVDC project and the position and function of pole control system in the whole control system. The test result is included here. Thirdly this paper states detailed the basic principle of HVDC control system and how to realize in the Lingbao Back-to-Back project and describes the advantage when use this way to control. Fourth this paper states detailed the principle of stable control of HVDC and the basic principle of the function of stable control in the Lingbao Back-to-Back HVDC projectand how to realize it. And then, aiming at the technological difficulty in the realization of redundant pole control system, this paper discussed the way of realizing the redundant pole control system in the Lingbao Back-to-Back HVDC project. The redundant pole control system was also tested on the RTDS, and the result was satisfied. Finally, according to the fact of Lingbao Back-to-Back HVDC project, the hardware system of pole control system was arranged and software of pole control system was programmed by use of SIMADYN D control system. Following the whole pole control system was tested on the RTDS, through the test: the main function and performance of pole control system meet the demand of systems design. The whole control system will operate at July in 2005.
